Abstract

In research, waste plastic bottles as a material addition was used to modify the behavior of a granular base and sub-base. From tests of Proctor and CBR was compared the behavior of the natural material and the mixing. The results of the investigation show that the CBR of a mixture of granular materials, bases and subbase, with waste material, presents a notable increase. In addition, the modified mixture, change the unit weight of the material, resulting in a mixture with greater strength and lighter weight. The study focused on resistance property of granular material, with samples in their natural state and stabilized samples. The results allow demonstrating a positive influence on the strength of the material from the waste of plastic bottles; this generates a good background to develop more research, aiming at test the feasibility of this product as stabilizing additive, parallel benefiting the environment, on having reduced the impact generated by the disposition of plastic bottles in sanitary landfills
